With over 500 players attending, the success of the tournament will depend on the volunteers. There are many different things you can do that will show other organizers how a large tournament should be run.
Just check off the areas you feel you could help:
I can be a Tournament Director’s helper. All you need to know is what a checkmate is. You will be collecting game results and marking them down.
I am willing to be a door monitor and direct children and parents.
I can help replace games results sheets at the beginning of each round.
I can help set-up the chess sets on Saturday evening starting at 8:30 PM.
If the chess pieces and tables can't be set up on Saturday night I can help from 8 PM to 10 PM.
I am can work with the computer operators by posting the lists of who people play, game results and distributing the list of people play to those with clipboards.
I can distribute 5 and 6 year olds to their parents after each round. These young players will be waiting in the hallway of HALL 1.
I can help set-up the Awards Ceremonies.
I will help clean up the site after the tournament. This a double pretty please with special considerations.
I can work a video camera to scan the room and at times whole games to the viewing audience.
I will work a large demo board for the audience to view the top board’s game.
I can’t decide on all those wonderful options. You can place me in any area I am needed.

NOTES: The volunteers in each area can set up their own time schedules and, of course, break time. For those working during the event itself I will provide food and drinks—non-alcoholic of course.
